Welcome to the Fifth Grade Classroom Page!
Hello. My name is Mr. Kyle Brian Kelly. I was born June 13, 1984 in Harbor City California. My upbringing was encompassed by athletics, education, and Catholic values; which I energetically continue to this day. Following high school graduation, Long Beach City College illuminated the magnitude and value of teaching, learning, and erudition in general. Through passion, dedication, effort, and time, I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from California State University Long Beach. For over a decade I have devoted my summers to the Long Beach City College Summer Aquatics program where I was a lifeguard and taught swim lessons to a wide range of students. Here I enriched my passion for teaching and developed a strong interest in pursuing instruction at the professional level.
Before teaching 5th grade at St. Bernard School in Bellflower, I volunteered as a teacher’s assistant, substituted, co-directed the SBS choir on a weekly basis, and conducted a successful summer-school math program for grades three through eight. This experience exposed me to a wide diversity of learners, as well as various educational and pedagogical paradigms; furthermore, the culmination of these experiences solidified my mission to improve the lives and education of our youth. I believe God has blessed me with a boundless compassion for learning and humanity, and revealed that any sort of meaningful, worthwhile, effective instruction requires a boundless dedication to education and genuine passion for pedagogy. I have also learned that guiding and assisting people, especially the youth, with the proper development of their knowledge and critical thinking skills, is unquestionably among the most significant activities I could ever devote my being to. Moreover, fostering strong moral foundation by imparting Catholic values supports not just my passion and rationale for teaching, but my overarching religious faith, and profound desire to positively transform society.
Having achieved a Masters of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Loyola Marymount University as well as a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential (cleared in May of 2018), I have become shaped into an educated, experienced instructor that possesses the knowledge and skills necessary to plan, implement, and differentiate research based, strategically designed academic instruction, and administer assessments in ways that meet the unique learning needs of today’s multicultural, kaleidoscope of learners. I believe in a vivid vision of academic excellence and transformation, driven by respectful, responsive, and interconnected learning communities that recognize and respond to the multifaceted, intercultural, tech-oriented, and increasingly global community we all find ourselves in. As a professional instructor, I am committed to enlivening, educating, and empowering all of my students, as well as encouraging them to use their unique, God-given talents to become successful, self-motivated, confident, and happy life-long learners who promote and live the mission and values of Jesus Christ and embrace our multicultural identities as members of God’s universal family.
In closing, I am pleased to welcome you all to your 5th grade class.
