St. Bernard Monarch Cubs to lions
Early Learning (Ages 3-5)

Monarch Cub to LION Mission Statement

At St. Bernard Early Childhood Program (Preschool, Transitional Kindergarten, and Kindergarten), our mission is to nurture the hearts, minds, and spirits of young children through faith-based early education. Rooted in Catholic values and guided by Christ’s love, we provide a safe, joyful, and developmentally appropriate learning environment where every child is known, valued, and supported.

We recognize and nurture each child’s God-given gifts of mind, heart, and body by fostering spiritual growth, strong character, and academic readiness. In partnership with parents and the St. Bernard Parish community, we help children grow in prayer, build healthy relationships, develop confidence and self-control, and learn to serve others with compassion -making Christ visible each day through respect, kindness, and responsibility.

Vision

Our vision for St. Bernard Preschool is to provide rich opportunities for children ages 3–5 to grow intellectually, socially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually in a warm, loving Christian environment. We want every child to build a positive self-image, discover creativity, develop problem-solving skills, strengthen self-control, and experience the joy of learning.

Our curriculum is grounded in developmentally appropriate practices and designed to prepare children for success in Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten. Through daily routines and hands-on learning, children build strong foundations in language, early literacy, and communication—supporting speaking, listening, phonological awareness, print awareness, and pre-writing skills. Students will enjoy children’s literature, create stories, and participate in dramatic play that brings books to life.

In mathematics, children will explore a variety of hands-on manipulatives to develop understanding of patterns, sorting, classifying, counting, number recognition, sequencing, graphing, comparing, time, and measurement. Science and Social Studies are thoughtfully integrated across the curriculum through language arts and math, helping children observe, ask questions, and explore the world around them.

Above all, we provide a faith-filled environment where Christian values are lived each day, and children begin to appreciate the wonderful world God has created—learning to treat others with kindness, respect, and responsibility.

PReschool (Age 3)

We are proud to serve our community by offering a high-quality preschool program for potty-trained children ages 3–4. Our preschool class is licensed for 24 students, allowing us to provide a safe, structured environment with the attention young learners need.

Our teachers are fully qualified, experienced, and dedicated early childhood professionals who understand how 3- and 4-year-olds grow and learn. Through developmentally appropriate instruction, nurturing routines, and a faith-filled classroom culture, we help children build strong foundations in social-emotional development, independence, early literacy and math skills, and readiness for Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten.

Transitional Kindergarten (Age 4)

Our goal in Transitional Kindergarten is to help children grow intellectually, socially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually in a warm, loving Christian environment. Through developmentally appropriate learning, we build confidence, creativity, self-control, and problem-solving while keeping learning joyful.

Our TK program strengthens speaking, listening, early reading awareness, and pre-writing skills, and develops the habits children need to be well-prepared for Kindergarten. Christian values are taught and modeled each day as we partner with families to support every child’s growth.

Kindergarten (Age 5)

Our goal in Kindergarten is to help children grow intellectually, socially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually in a warm, loving Christian environment. In a structured, supportive classroom, children thrive through clear routines, consistent expectations, and developmentally appropriate learning that builds confidence, creativity, self-control, and problem-solving while keeping learning joyful.

Our Kindergarten program strengthens speaking and listening, develops early reading and writing skills, and builds a strong foundation in reading and math concepts and classroom habits. Faith is woven into each day through prayer and Gospel values, helping children grow in their relationship with God, practice kindness, and learn to serve others. In partnership with families, we prepare students to succeed in the elementary grades—academically, socially, and spiritually.
