St. Bernard PRESCHOOL
Little Lions Cubs (Age 3)
Monarch Cub to LION Mission Statement
At St. Bernard Early Childhood Program (Preschool, Transitional Kindergarten, and Kindergarten), our mission is to nurture the hearts, minds, and spirits of young children through faith-based early education. Rooted in Catholic values and guided by Christ’s love, we provide a safe, joyful, and developmentally appropriate learning environment where every child is known, valued, and supported.
We recognize and nurture each child’s God-given gifts of mind, heart, and body by fostering spiritual growth, strong character, and academic readiness. In partnership with parents and the St. Bernard Parish community, we help children grow in prayer, build healthy relationships, develop confidence and self-control, and learn to serve others with compassion -making Christ visible each day through respect, kindness, and responsibility.

Vision
Our vision for St. Bernard Preschool is to provide rich opportunities for children ages 3–5 to grow intellectually, socially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually in a warm, loving Christian environment. We want every child to build a positive self-image, discover creativity, develop problem-solving skills, strengthen self-control, and experience the joy of learning.
Our curriculum is grounded in developmentally appropriate practices and designed to prepare children for success in Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten. Through daily routines and hands-on learning, children build strong foundations in language, early literacy, and communication—supporting speaking, listening, phonological awareness, print awareness, and pre-writing skills. Students will enjoy children’s literature, create stories, and participate in dramatic play that brings books to life.
In mathematics, children will explore a variety of hands-on manipulatives to develop understanding of patterns, sorting, classifying, counting, number recognition, sequencing, graphing, comparing, time, and measurement. Science and Social Studies are thoughtfully integrated across the curriculum through language arts and math, helping children observe, ask questions, and explore the world around them.
Above all, we provide a faith-filled environment where Christian values are lived each day, and children begin to appreciate the wonderful world God has created—learning to treat others with kindness, respect, and responsibility.

PRESCHOOL
Hi! My name is Lorena Murguia, This is my 6th year teaching preschool at St. Bernard School. Before joining preschool, I spent 14 years teaching Kindergarten, and I have been part of Catholic education for 30 years. I love working with young children and enjoy the joy and energy they bring each day. I earned my AA from Compton College and my BA from Cal State Dominguez Hills, and later completed my Child Supervision Site Permit through Cerritos College. Outside the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family, dancing, cooking, and going to Dodger games. I look forward to partnering with you and your family! Blessings Mrs. Murguia |
TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN
Hello, my name is Eilene Rodriquez, I’m so excited to be part of St. Bernard School’s Preschool program! I have over three years of experience working with young children, and I love supporting them as they learn, grow, and reach important developmental milestones. In our classroom, I focus on creating a safe, nurturing, and faith-filled environment where every child feels known and supported. I look forward to partnering with families to help our preschoolers build confidence, develop friendships, and strengthen the early skills they need to thrive in Transitional Kindergarten and beyond. With Appreciation, Mrs. Brandow |
