PReschool (Age 3)
We are proud to serve our community by offering a preschool program. Our preschool program is for children 3-4 years old and who are potty trained. We have space and are liscenced for 24 students and our teachers are fully qualified and experienced. They are professionals who know what this age group needs in order to be well prepared for kindergarten.
Our goal as a preschool is to provide opportunities for our students to grow
intellectually, socially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually in a warm loving Christian environment.
We want our students to build a positive self-image, discover their creativity, learn problem-solving
skills, develop self-control and know that learning is fun. Our curriculum is based on developmentally
appropriate practices. Our program language skills will encompass speaking, listening, reading
awareness and pre-writing skills. Our students will have opportunities to find joy in children’s literature,
create stories and engage in dramatic representations of the literature they are studying. In
mathematics we will allow students to explore a variety of math manipulatives that will assist them in
learning about patterns, sorting, classifying, counting, numerical recognition, sequencing, graphing,
comparing, telling time, and measuring. We provide a Christian environment where values will be
emphasized as we help our children begin to appreciate the wonderful world God has created for us.
Science and Social Studies will be integrated in the curriculum through Language Arts and Mathematics.
PRESCHOOL
Hi! My name is Lorena Murguia. This will be my 6th year as one of the preschool teachers. Before teaching preschool, I taught Kindergarten here for fourteen years. I have been involved in the field of Catholic Education for the past nineteen years. I am very passionate about the work I do with my students. I enjoy working with young children because they bring joy and light into my daily teaching. I was born in Mexico and came to this country when I was 9 years old with my parents. I attended Compton College and I earned my AA. After, I transferred to Cal State Dominguez Hills and earned my BA. When I transitioned to preschool, I decided to go back to Cerritos College and obtained a child supervision site permit. I have been married to my husband for twenty-three years and we have two children. My son is a sophomore in college and my daughter is a sophomore in high school. My interests include dancing, cooking, and going to Dodger games. I am looking forward to working with you and your family. Blessings |
TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN
Hello, my name is Allison Large and I am happy to be apart of St. Bernard’s preschool classroom. I have been working with children for a little over nine years and love it. Being able to see children blossom and the excitement on their faces with they accomplish a task is what makes it so rewarding. Within this past year, I received my Bachelors Degree in Child Development from the University of La Verne. When I am not going to school or teaching, I love to go on adventures and spend as much time as I can with my family. I have a three-year-old daughter and she gives me the push to be the best Mom and person that I can be.” |
